Vodafone GmbH (www.vodafone.de) is a telecommunications operator in Germany owned by Vodafone Group PLC. Please note that this article focuses on the Vodafone in Germany, and its content may not be applicable to other Vodafone ISPs across Europe.
Requesting Public IPv4
According to social media and forum posts, you can ask for a public IPv4 from their customer support. Users have reported success in getting that accepted.
Vodafone is known to use Carrier Grade Network Address Translation (CG-NAT) for some of their user base. In this case, without getting a public IPv4 address, your WEPN pod will not be able to function properly.
- What’s a double-NAT and how can it cause trouble?
- Test passed all steps but failed at the final step with message: “Port forwarding test failed”. how can I fix it?
If you are unsure and would like to test compatibility of your network with WEPN, you can run a compatibility test from our app. Below articles dive into more details.
Informing Your ISP About Ports Being Open
You should also notify Vodafone customer service that you are opening some ports for a game or networking application. We have a report of someone getting asked by Vodafone about it. However, once they confirmed to the Vodafone staff that this was an intentional use case, there was not further issues.
Vodafone Germany is one of the few ISPs that require such notice from subscriber about port opening.
