Spectrum (www.spectrum.com) is a high speed internet provider. As of now (August 2024), their guides specify that for home internet users UPnP is on by default on their provided equipment. You should not try to manually forward ports unless either:
- you have set up your device 48 hours ago but the WEPN app reports that there is an issue with port forwarding,
- OR WEPN staff has asked your to take the manual forward steps due to your specific setup, OR
- OR you have a background in networking and know specifically why you need to do so.
If any of the above conditions are true, you can forward the ports manually. Following is their guide: https://www.spectrum.net/support/internet/advanced-wifi-advanced-settings
or this vidual guide: https://www.wikihow.com/Port-Forward-on-Spectrum
Adjusting based on our spec, for manual port forwarding in the My Spectrum app you will need to:
- Select the Services tab.
- Under the Equipment section, select Router.
- Scroll down and select Advanced Settings.
- Select Port Forwarding & IP Reservations.
- To set up an IP reservation, select a connected device under Create IP Reservation.
- To reserve the IP reservation, toggle the Reserve IP Address setting on for WEPN.
Now for port forwarding:
- Select Add Port Assignment.
- Enter a name for the port assignment
- for example "WEPN ports"
- Enter the external and internal port numbers you’d like the device to to be accessible from
- internal is 4000-4100 with the dash to signify a range of ports. for external please also enter 4000-4100.
- If it was not accepted, set internal to 4000-4100 and external to 4000
- Choose the protocol that should be allowed through the port number: TCP+UDP
- Select the check mark to confirm your port forwarding settings.
After taking the above steps, your setup should look similar to this image:
